Gingerbread People

We headed over to the park today since they've finally displayed their holiday scene.  Here's some gingerbread people sitting on a swing in a tree.  They were too cute.  I think I'll save some of the other pictures to stretch out the holiday theme here at the blog.

Random Bike

This is from when we took pictures of the horses last week.  The bike was just there, leaning against the fence, and I had to take a picture.

Christmas Tree

Oldest, KeyRawr and I went out shopping today to see if there were any deals to be had after the Black Friday madness.  First, I wanted a new book but that wasn't a deal.  I bought "Vengeance in Death" by J.D. Robb because I'd just finished the book before it in the series, and I can't stop reading them!  They're that good.

After that, we went to Ulta to check out their sales.  I got five different nail colors, 5 for $5; Bam-Blue-Zled, Pink Cloud, Fuchsiamania, Sweet Nothing, and Encore Pink.  Love all the girly stuff.

We also went to Target to look for jeans so I can actually wear the new black boots I bought last week.  No luck yet.  Then to GameStop.

The husband had put up the Christmas tree while we were gone, and KeyRawr and Oldest helped me decorate.  Many of our ornaments are special for different reasons, but this ball with snowmen on it is one of my favorites that I bought last year at Pier 1 simply because I love snowmen.  I have my eye on a black and silver shiny camera ornament that we saw at Target.

On Ice

Tonight started all the holiday fun that is Christmas in the Square.  They'd already had their blue lights up, but tonight the light show programmed to a radio station was going on, and we got to see that right after we ice skated.

This is the first time Frisco has had an outdoor ice skating rink, and the first time either KeyRawr or I had ice skated.  Oldest sat back and watched.  I had a lot of fun, even though I fell twice.  Ouch!  I'm sure my knee will be killing me tomorrow, but I'm also ready to go back!

I've always wanted to ice skate.  It's one of the things on my life list, so now I guess I can cross that off.  Here's a picture of the ice skates I'd used after I took them off.
We also stopped at this candy and popcorn shop called Poparella's as we were leaving.  We didn't get anything, but it all smelled and looked so yummy.  Here's a picture I snapped from inside the shop.
Tonight definitely put me in the holiday spirit.

Happy Thanksgiving

Call me a turkey, I'm stuffed!  I ate way too much, and still wanted to eat more.

I tried to take pictures of our Thanksgiving spread, but none of them turned out very well.  So, here's a run down of what we had:  turkey, ham, stuffing, mashed potatoes, pea salad, green bean casserole, sweet potato bake, deviled eggs, dinner rolls, cranberries, pineapple slices, and stuffed mushrooms.

I wanted to get an early start on a few things, so last night, I made our pumpkin pie, along with a dip that Oldest requested. The dip requires one package of Lipton Onion Soup Mix and a 16 oz. container of sour cream.  A quick, easy, yummy dip.  Good with plain Ruffles.  Youngest requested 'green stuff'.  Green stuff is a light green, fluffy dessert my mom always makes for holidays.  It's basically watergate salad minus the pecans.

I currently have a cherry pie baking in the oven.  More food!

For today's picture, I'm using one from our recent outing.  I forgot I had this, and liked it better than the last lake picture I used.

I hope everyone had a safe and happy Thanksgiving.  I know I enjoyed mine with my family.

Horsing Around Part 2

Here's the second part of what I'll call the horse series.  I had several from our photo op yesterday that I liked, that I wanted to include them all, but in different posts.

When I was looking back through my pictures, I didn't even remember taking this one, but I like how it turned out.

I hope everyone has a Happy Thanksgiving tomorrow!

Horsing Around

Today's photo outing was eventful and productive.  After two days of off and on rain, the sun was mostly out and it wasn't that cold.  Oldest, KeyRawr and I went to a different area of the nearby lake and took a few pictures there.  This was my favorite photo of the lake and trees with their changing leaves.

After the lake, I wanted to show KeyRawr where Youngest used to practice T-ball, but either the area grew up around it or I took a wrong turn, because I couldn't find the open field.  I kept driving and ended up in a small town I'd never even heard of called Providence.  KeyRawr saw horses from the road, so I pulled off into this nearby parking lot, and we walked over to ask a lady if the horses belonged to her and if we could photograph them.  She was gracious enough to allow us to take pictures of her horses.  She'd been in the process of scaring off a mouse that was in her shed, and I ended up scaring her as she hadn't heard us walk up.

There was a few horses and two donkeys.

I guess this guy wanted his close up.

It was around feeding time, and I think these two were more interested in getting their food rather than cooperating for photos, but they did cooperate very well.  Beautiful animals.  I was glad we found them.

No Rain

After all the rain we had today, I wasn't sure what I'd possibly take a picture of outside.  That is, until I was in my room, looked out the window and noticed water droplets on some longer blades of grass in the backyard.  It was instant inspiration.  I love those moments!  How come it doesn't come that easily with my writing?

Anyway, I grabbed my camera and set out for the backyard.  Shivering and trying to hurry in out of the cold, I got one shot (out of several) that I was happiest with.

Sunday Shopping

KeyRawr and I went shopping today.  The picture is of a couple of things that I bought for myself.  Still playing with different effects (layers and patchwork from Foto Flexer).
First, we went to Old Navy to look for some boots.  I got these black ones with a wedge heel and buckles.  We both got two tops.  Then, we went to JCPenney so I could get a link taken out of my watch.  Funny thing, the way the links are, I could've done it myself and I didn't even know that.  It's a Relic, and not sure if they're all made that way or what.  We also went to Forever 21, Charlotte Russe and Victoria's Secret.  Fun, fun stores.

The weather was cool, but not too bad at first, but it was much colder and raining by the time we came out of the mall.  Winter is definitely trying to make its arrival.  We stopped at Whataburger and brought burgers home for dinner.

A fun day of girly shopping and yummy food.

Saturday and a Movie

Oldest, his girlfriend and I went to see Breaking Dawn Part 1 today.  It was good.  It's been so long since I'd read the books, that now I want to re-read the last book, Breaking Dawn.

It was a nice treat after what seemed like a long week.  Thank goodness this next week is a holiday from school for Youngest.  Sometimes those demands (homework, etc.) make me feel like I'm twirling, spinning, twisting.

I played with this picture that I took of yellow flowers, and thought about how the swirls reminded me of the craziness that can be our lives at times, and even with everything there is to do, there's always a point to focus on, beauty to behold, comfort in knowing no matter which way you turn (or spin, at dizzying rates), things are always complete.

Another Friday Favorite

Here's another Friday favorite.  This was taken last month before Halloween.  Oldest's girlfriend and I had went for a walk along the trail at a local park, and found all kinds of interesting things along the way.  This upside down boat was among my favorite findings, and pictures taken.  I also liked how the twisted branches reached out and seemed to make a canopy above us, adding an almost magical, mysterious vibe to the place.

The Oddest Things

The more I take pictures, the more I notice the oddest things.  Things I might not have noticed otherwise, and find the beauty in them.  Earlier this week, I'd seen an old tractor sitting beside Sonic.  I didn't have time for pictures (and didn't have my camera with me, anyway), but knew I wanted to make a return trip.

Today, Oldest and his girlfriend went back to the spot with me.  KeyRawr and I snapped pictures of the tractors - there was one on each side of the fast food place.  We got lunch there after taking pictures.

I love the old, rickety feel of this tractor.  It has so much character.  I wonder what its story is, where it came from, why it's there.

Every Spring since we've lived in this house (9 years now), I've wanted to plant some pretty flowers outside, but I've yet to do it.  One of these days!  For this shot, I borrowed our neighbor's pretty pink flowers on the side of her house in between hers and ours for a photo.  A little ant wanted his photo taken, too.

Fall Leaves

It was a beautiful day today...that is until about 3:15 when storm clouds rolled in.  Luckily, I was outside before then, playing with the settings on my camera.  I normally just use auto mode and take what I can get (I think I did these in landscape mode, or at least one of them).  As much as I love my camera, it takes too much time to get into the menu and find what I need when I need it.  Yeah, I'm lazy when it comes that stuff.  Point, shoot, perfection.  That's the way I think it should be, but not naive enough to think that's the way it is.  I'll keep playing, keep learning.

And I couldn't decide which of these I liked best, so here's a couple from today's shots.

Fashion Accessory

I've been trying to get one of those photos of myself behind the camera.  You know the ones, the reflection in a mirror or something like that, but most of the ones I've seen other people do just isn't what I'm going for.  I'll keep working on it.  But for now, here's just a picture of my camera itself.  It's a Nikon Coolpix L100.  It's also my favorite fashion accessory when I'm out and about.

There's not many times when being stuck in traffic is fun, or even welcomed, but tonight, as we were stuck in traffic on the way home, I thought the clouds and the bright rays of sunlight coming through them were pretty, so I grabbed my cell phone and took this picture.  Taking the time to slow down and look around is a good thing.

More Lights

I imagine I'll have more photos of lights over the next month and a half.  We'd gone to see if the Christmas lights were on in the park, but they haven't set everything up yet.  So, we went to Frisco Square and found these pretty blue lights.  These were outside an Italian restaurant called Josephine's, and it smelled really good.

And, not a Christmas light, but a light in the park.

Friday Favorite

I snapped some photos today, but they didn't come close to what I had in mind, so I decided to do something a little different.  It may not be every Friday, but I thought I'd start today by showing a favorite photo.  One that I took when we went to the State Fair last month.

Was in Denton this evening for an appointment.  There's so many interesting things to see and do on the square, but it got dark faster than I had time to explore.  This is in front of the old court house.  I hope to go back when I have more time to spend.  The picture might look a little better if you click on it for a larger view.  I really need to work on getting better shots.

The husband finally sold his truck last night.  The truck had been for sale for a while.  A guy with the best offer and who wanted a project truck, stopped by last night and drove off in it.  Never thought I'd miss seeing it in the driveway, but it is weird with it gone.  I suppose it did have a lot of character, and it sure got a lot of compliments.  It even had its share of funny stories, like the time the antenna fell off while going down the road, and another time when Youngest, who was only eight years old at the time, tried to plant an innocent smooch on the girl who used to live across the street while they were sitting in the front seat.

Fun is...

Went to the dentist today.  Of all the things I can think of that aren't fun, that one is pretty high on my list.  Need to have a molar and wisdom tooth extracted.  Thought I'd do a tooth related picture (a toothbrush or something) for the blog, but decided I'd had enough of thinking about that for now, so here's one of something that is fun.

I bought this on Sunday I think it was.  Reading "Ceremony in Death" (J.D. Robb) right now, but will start this as soon as I'm done.  Nora Roberts' books always make me feel better.

Today's photo while on a walk with Oldest and his girlfriend.

At first, a few rain drops had us undecided if we should continue on, but we did, and even for a sort of gloomy, overcast day, I still managed to find something interesting.  The joys of exploring...

This time change is already messing with me.  I don't like that it gets dark earlier.  It makes it seem like you have less time to do stuff.

Not that I did much today.  The plan was to get some allergy medicine because whatever I have (cold/allergies/whatever) is kicking my butt and I haven't slept well the past two nights.  Which is probably also why I passed out on the couch this afternoon, fully dressed, shoes on, and everything.   But anyway, made a trip to Walmart and got a few other things with the allergy medicine.  And for some reason, apparently feeling like death warmed over makes me want to clean, because I cleaned my bathroom, the kitchen and dining room table tonight.

And speaking of Walmart, I'm so not ready to be assaulted with the smell of cinnamon and the sound of Christmas music.  I'm not a scrooge, the holidays are great, but it's soooo early.

On Course

We went back to the golf course again today, and I got some better shots.  Or at least more shots, anyway.  Mid afternoon, Saturday, sunshine, 70 degrees and windy.  Other than the wind, I'd say it was a perfect day to play.  And I don't even play.  Just wanted the photo op.

Friday, November 4, 2011

So, I've been wanting to take photos at this nearby golf course and went there this evening with Oldest and his girlfriend.  I was all excited for the new opportunity, but then completely disappointed myself by pulling an amateurish move.  I'd snapped a few photos, and we were about to come around this curve into what looked like a really great area when my camera battery died.  Even worse, no extra batteries.  And I'd left my cell phone in the car.

I want to go back tomorrow, with fresh batteries, and hopefully get some better shots.  Maybe this blog title should be Fail! and not Fore!

My lunch.  Chicken noodle soup.

I felt well enough to venture out to a different part of the lake to take pictures today, but it was too cold and windy.  Not the best idea.  It was probably the coldest it's been lately, and there I was still trying to hold onto summer.  The weekend is supposed to be a little warmer, so I shall try again.

Am I Allergic to NaNoWriMo?

It never fails, I always get a cold or my allergies start acting up when NaNoWriMo rolls around.  If it's a defense mechanism, I don't want it!  I'd rather embrace my story.  Not a bag of cough drops.

For this year's attempt, I'm going with something lighter.  A humorous look at the writing process from the point of view of my main character, Nano.  It may never see the light of day, as is the case with much of what I've written, but the idea grew on me and I want to write it.

You might be wondering what the truck bed of the husband's '67 GMC pick up truck has to do with feeling blah and writing my novel.  The answer is, nothing.  I was just outside looking for something to take a photo of and snapped this.  I took a few others, but this one got the most votes when I asked those closest to me which ones they might like best.

Hard to believe it's already November again.  Time for National Novel Writing Month.  What have I done today for a word count?  If journaling in my beloved Twilight journal, catching up on emails and updating this blog count, then I'm right on target.  They don't count?  Phewy!  The last line of the journal entry says it all.

P.S.  My bat costume is over there (until I find/take a better pic).  -->
