I missed my own anniversary!  This past Thursday was one year since I started this photo-a-day blog.  Some days I didn't show up due to illness or being too busy, but I've tried to keep up as best I could.

I've enjoyed the journey, and sharing it here.  The best part was exploring photo opportunities with KeyRawr.  The many hours we shared, the laughs, the shots we'd come away with.  She's the one with the real photography talent!

I have so many favorite pictures, but I chose this one for today.  I took this at the State Fair last year.  It was the best State Fair in memory.  The butterfly also represents the gentle spirit, soft as butterfly wings, of my best friend who shares my love for all things creative.  You may be too many miles away, but I treasure the snapshots that I carry in my heart.  I love you!

Sugary Goodness

Craptastic cell phone quality picture, but these Halloween sugar cookies with icing and sprinkles that I bought today are so very yummy!

I picked them up as part of my planning for NaNoWriMo, but they'll be long gone before November 1st.  Guess I should've gotten the bigger box.

Do you indulge in a favorite treat during the writing process?  If so, what is it?

Nanowrimo Plans?

I was over at the NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) website yesterday, gearing up for this year's challenge and trying to decide what I'll write.  Romance, mystery, paranormal, suspense/psychological thriller, young adult.  I love them all.  Currently, I'm leaning toward mystery or paranormal.  I guess all of this Halloween spirit has me in that kind of mood.

While I was looking around, geeking out on all the wonderful writerly advice and other fun stuff, I wondered if I was too early.  Too eager.  Too ready to fall flat on my face (as usual).  But then I received an email from one of the three Municipal Liaisons for DFW, and decided it's never too early.  It gives me time to figure out where I'm going before I get there.

This will be my sixth year to participate.  Of those six years, I've won once.  Yeah, I know, and every year I think it's going to be different.  Maybe this time it will be.  I'll cross that finish line with 50k words.  With dedication and heart.  And a whole lot of something to work with once November is over.

Are you participating in NaNoWriMo?  If so, what are you writing?

Back with Birds

I'm baaaaaack!

I've been feeling under the weather.  Sick, unmotivated, tired.  But I'm on the mend, and hope to get back to posting more frequently.

I snapped this picture while going through an intersection (I wasn't driving) this past weekend.  What is it about birds on wires that's so interesting?  What kinds of things catch your eye?

Grape stomp competition. I didn't participate, but would've loved to squish some grapes between my toes. :)  Maybe next time.

It's always amazing what you'll find when you least expect it.  We were at Grapefest today, and I had to stop in this stationery store just to see what they had.  Found this little pretty sitting on a shelf in the back.  I'm in love!

Spotted this along my walk this morning.

I'll plant my feet
set down roots
stand strong.

Saw these at Walmart the other day.  Are you ready for Halloween?

As promised, here's more from yesterday's Arts, Antiques & Autos event:

More again tomorrow.  This is all I had the energy to add to the blog for tonight.  Either my allergies are acting up, or I have a cold, not sure which, but whatever it is it's kicking my butt, so I'm off to rest.  Good night.

Weekend Event

Today was perfect for the 13th Annual Arts, Antiques & Autos event in Denton.  This is one of my favorite shots.  A sock monkey sitting in the passenger seat of one of the classic cars!  I love sock monkeys!! He looked so cute sitting there, I couldn't resist taking a picture.

It was in the mid 80s, a light breeze, and not a cloud in the sky.

The husband was mostly (or only) interested in the cars,

but me, there was so much more to see and do.  I like old town squares - the little shops, places to eat, the history.

And of course, the other interesting things I find along the way.

There was a live band playing on the front lawn of the courthouse.

I'll post more of the cars tomorrow.

Old Cabins

Check out this week's gallery at Jessica Rogers PhotographyHere's my offering - part of a beautiful old cabin with white eyelet detail curtains.

I'm also looking forward to an arts, antiques and autos event this weekend.  Hopefully the weather holds out and it'll be a great opportunity for some more photos.

P.S.  Speaking of old things...I hope I don't end up grouchy when I'm old.  I was at my doctor's office this morning and some older man was asked to sign some papers. He grumbled about why he had to do it, which was explained to him several times by a woman at the front desk, and said it was a "waste of time."  Waste of time?  Dude, you're sitting in the doctor's office waiting.  What else are you really doing?

Sigh...some people.  So glad it's Friday!

The weekend hashtag project at Instagram has been to take pictures of building patterns.  I had loads of fun yesterday taking pictures of tiles, bricks, windows, old houses, anything that caught my eye.  I truly enjoy moments like that when the productivity is high.  41 pictures.  That's just what I used.  There were plenty more that ended up in the trashcan, but that's okay, too.

I took my new toy - my Olloclip - with me, and didn't even take it out of my purse!  I was caught up in taking pictures, less concerned with switching lenses at the time.  Maybe on the next outing.

This lightpost was outside the mexican food restaurant where we had lunch.  It's a pattern of sorts, just not on or in a building.

More patterns to follow...

First day of high school for the youngest!  Couldn't believe I didn't even get a picture of him this morning, but that's what happens when there's just so much going on.  Busy, busy day.
