First day of high school for the youngest!  Couldn't believe I didn't even get a picture of him this morning, but that's what happens when there's just so much going on.  Busy, busy day.

On a trip to the bike shop today, I found some things that would make customizing a bike seem almost worth it - an adorable cherry bike bell, and a cherry beach cruiser seat!  Love these!

And a couple of special bikes!

Flower in a Bubble

The Flower

White petals dancing in the breeze
hot summer sun, if you please,
lend a gentle whisper as if to tease
all of the buzzing bees
that gather around flowers such as these
with such efficient ease
while I brush the soil from my knees
close my eyes and wait to sneeze

More Exploring

Here's part of the exploration I mentioned yesterday.  A ramp outside of a church in the area that the town's heritage society is renovating.

A Birthday and Exploring

Today is the youngest's 14th birthday!

We went out to eat lunch at one of our favorite seafood places.  After that, I did a little exploring for the weekend hashtag project at Instagram.  Found some pretty cool stuff.  I'll share those throughout the week.

An early birthday cupcake for the youngest.  Bought an ice cream cake for tomorrow (the actual birthday), and cupcakes for a little early celebration.  I think I was the only one excited about the cupcakes.  Oh well, more for me.

Weekend Recap

I took this today when we went out to eat.  I'd edited the picture in Instagram and posted it there.  I wanted to edit the original a different way using one of my favorite photo editing sites, but for some reason the editor thing wasn't working.  This is the original, in all its weird shadows and uncropped glory.

When I was typing the post title for this entry, I accidentally typed 'weekend recrap'.  Freudian slip?  The weekend itself wasn't bad, but the crap part could be attributed to the way I feel after drinking an iced coffee.  I tried one for the first time yesterday.  Had another one today.  I get really amped up, and the crash is horrible.  No more iced coffee for me?  Bummer.  They taste sooo good.

I also bought a CD on itunes over the weekend. Run Wolves Run by Sean Hayes.  I'm totally in love with the song "When We Fall In."  Eargasmic!  I just noticed that he has a new CD coming out next month.  Yay!

Went to watch Bourne Legacy last night.  Not my favorite kind of movie, but the husband wanted to see it, so we went.  Here are a few I do want to see:  Hope Springs, ParaNorman, and Hotel Transylvania.

And, I bought a new book.  I'd seen "Wake" by Amanda Hocking at the store the other day.  The pretty, pretty cover had me wondering what it was about.  I didn't get it then, but I did pick it up on a return trip today.

Good food, music, and books.  All in all, not a bad weekend.

Clouds form overhead
darkening the pull within
lightning splits the sky in two
dividing the threat

Darkening the pull within
I seek shelter
outside of myself

Lightning splits the sky in two
a sharp contrast
that jolts the air from my lungs

Dividing the threat
and giving a name to the fear
until it drowns out the constant rumble.

Making good use of the wait to get a table when we went out to eat for dinner this evening at a favorite mexican restaurant.  I'd never noticed this bench with a bright orange cushion and colored boards around it.  Maybe it was new, I don't know.  Perfect for the photo of the day.

I received a goody in the mail today!  A friend of mine went to the RWA (Romance Writers of America) conference in Anaheim, was lucky enough to meet both Nora Roberts and Jill Shalvis, and got me an autographed copy of "Lucky in Love" by Jill.

Here's the book on my shelf:

Thank you, Gina!

Beach Chairs

It was a rough start to the morning.  Oddly enough, it had nothing to do with writing.  Because I needed to destress quickly, I had the strongest pull to choose music as a way to fix this.  I chose Ellie Goulding's Lights.  It's not often that I buy a CD and love every song on it, but this one I do.  She has an amazing voice.  I'm going to play it over and over while I write, and even when I'm not writing.  I have a sort of eclectic taste in music.  She's totally different for me, and I'm thankful to KeyRawr for sharing this artist with me!

I took this picture this past weekend.  These chairs make me think of two things: (1) I just need to sit in my chair and write, and (2) I need a solo vacation so very badly.
